# Managing your projects

Once a project exists, day-to-day management happens from the dashboard or the project dropdown in the header.

## Common actions

* **Rename**: from the project dropdown, or the dashboard's project card menu.
* **Star**: pin a project for quick access from the **Starred** tab.
* **Duplicate**: create an independent copy with its own files.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Delete** is permanent, with a confirmation step. There's no recovery after deleting.
{% endhint %}

## Save a project somewhere more permanent

A temporary project only exists in your browser until you save it. From the project dropdown, choose **Save to device** (needs a Chromium-based browser) or **Save to cloud** (needs an account). Papers AI also prompts you to do this automatically whenever you navigate away from a temporary project.

A local project already lives on your device, but still isn't reachable from anywhere else. To make it reachable from other devices or shareable, save it to the cloud from the project dropdown, or just click **Share**, which saves it to the cloud automatically as the first step. See [Core concepts](/getting-started/core-concepts.md) for the difference between storage location and access.

## Finding a project

The dashboard's **Local**, **Cloud**, and **Shared with me** tabs filter by storage location and access. Use search or the **Starred** tab if a project isn't where you expect it.

## Things to know

Project names can be up to 255 characters.

## Troubleshooting

Confirm you're logged in and try the link again.

</details>

<details>

<summary>You can't find a project</summary>
